Announcements and General Business
- Any objection to "moving up" smoke test to Wednesday of this
week?
No objections
- Discuss "new feature" of HTML5 support in maintenance release
(bug 292415).
Agreed ok to release in service release (no new plugins, literal features, no API effected ... is primarily a new "content model" happens to be implimented in Java, instead of a schema. But it was suggested we announce on wtp-dev since could surprise some adopters ... but was agreed most would want/appreciate the new funciton.
Also agreed ok to release even though w3c spec is not completely final ... it is pretty far along, browsers are implementing support, and they do want feedback from community. (The latter, it was agreed, making it firmly consistent with some language in our charter ... where it mentions "recommenation" status is taken to be meant as example). But, when applicable, we should use language similar to "priliminary support for HTML5" since in theory there might be changes in the spec before its final release.
- Discuss recent discussions in WTP Incubator? What is PMC's
role?.
General agreement that the PMCs role is formally only to decide if vetos are invalid, or if the project is dsyfunctional and should be rebooted ("no" to both) but as senior members of Incubator Project, it was agreed the process and expecations should be better documented to treat everyone consistenly. For example, JPA Diagram editor was started with no source attached. [TODO: as Incubator Project Lead, dw to write wiki page referencing original proposal, earlier mailing lists messages, etc. with general guidelines for reference.
Confirmed the SAP proposed committers were more surpised than insulted ... and we reafirmed that they are welcome and look forward to the new work.
It was mentioned the new committers, once they become the committers, will create the CQ and attach initial contribution source, as was done with JPA Diagram Editor.
- PMC Review Approvals?
- Discussed OSGi EE application proposal
Discussed how to word "scope" and description sections so as to not imply diviation from vendor neutrality, but still make clear the goal is to support a wide community, not just one application framework.
Discussed how WTP charter should be changed to allow "non spec" work, but agreed that could be approached in parallel. [TODO: dw to come up with a draft rewrite.]
Future Agenda items
- Retrospect Helios quick maintenance release. Does it mean we weren't ready to release? Any way to improve timing in future?
- Disuss our model and assignments of "PMC Roles". Do they still make sense?
