Viewing topic monitoring statistics by using the Amlen WebUI

Use the topic monitor to view live, aggregated topic data, and to query the best and worst performing topics across several connection metrics.

The system administrator can reset the topic monitor data to zero by stopping and restarting the Eclipse Amlen server, or by deleting and re-creating a specific topic string. If the Eclipse Amlen server is restarted, then all monitored topic data is set to zero. For more information about restarting the Eclipse Amlen server, see Starting and stopping the server.

If you want to set individual topic data to zero, then you must delete and re-create individual topic strings. For more information about deleting and re-creating a topic string by using the GUI, see the following task information.

Note: Large numbers of topic monitors might affect the performance of Eclipse Amlen

You can view topic monitoring statistics by using the Amlen WebUI, by using REST Monitoring APIs, or by using an external monitoring application.   1. From the Amlen WebUI select Monitoring > Topics.
  2. Click the Add icon to add a topic string to the topic monitor table.
    The string must end with a multi-level wildcard (#) and must contain no other wildcards. For example, EXAMPLE/L2/#. You can specify only the multi-level wildcard (#) to monitor all topics. To monitor a single topic, that topic must have no child topics. For example, /animals/dogs/labradors/# monitors only the topic /animals/dogs/labradors if labradors has no child topics.
  3. After you add all the topic strings that you want to monitor, select the predefined query that you want to filter on.
  4. Click Refresh to sort the topic strings in the topic monitor table.
  5. Enter a value into Filter to change the visibility of the data that is shown in the table. The filter is applied to the maximum of items that are returned by the query.
  6. To delete a topic string, complete the following steps:
    1. From the topic monitor table, select the topic string that you want to delete.
    2. Click the Delete icon to remove the topic string from the monitored list.

The Timestamp is updated to show the time that query is generated.

The topic monitor table is updated to display the results of the query and any filter that is applied to those results.

You can view the total number of items that are returned in the Total field. You can see the number of items that are selected in the Selected field. You can move through the table of results by using Next Page and Previous Page or Go to a specific page. You can change the number of items to view per page by selecting from the available options.
