Change the editor on a workspace

Change the editor on a stopped or failed workspace to any editor from the available editors list, and optionally choose a specific version. The editor is selected by its identifier, not by a custom container image.

Prerequisites

  • The workspace is stopped or failed, and is neither deprecated nor terminating.

  • The target editor is listed in the available editors on your Che instance. See IDEs in workspaces for supported editors.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Workspaces and click the workspace name.

  2. On the Overview tab, find the Editor section.

  3. Click the edit icon.

  4. In the Change Editor dialog:

    1. Select a different editor from the list.

    2. Optional: If the editor offers multiple versions, click the ellipsis menu (⋮) next to the editor name and select the version you want.

  5. Click Save.

Only editors from the available editors list can be selected; specifying a custom editor image is not supported through this dialog.
